Two MUSD team members awarded 2025 Kiwanis Club honors

A pair of Milpitas Unified School District management team members are 2025 recipients of awards issued by the Kiwanis Club of Milpitas, with School Linked Services Supervisor of Wellbeing and Immigrant Support Norma Morales earning the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) and Milpitas High School Principal and Chief Innovator Greg Wohlman earning the Community Service Award (CSA).
Providing support and services to MUSD students and families throughout her decades-long MUSD career, Morales was named as this year’s award-winner for the DSA, which recognizes Kiwanians who go above and beyond in their service and dedication to their club and community. Whether it is providing access to resources for housing, clothing, and/or education, Morales elevates the experience of our English learners so that they know what it means to be a part of a community by giving their time in organizations such as Kiwanis.
“She elevates the experience of our English learners so that they know what it means to be a part of a community by giving their time in organizations such as Kiwanis,” MUSD Superintendent Cheryl Jordan said. “Norma models what it means to build capacity in others through presence every day.”
Creating enjoyable, nurturing and inclusive learning experiences within MUSD, Wohlman was selected for this year’s CSA, which recognizes a club member for their volunteer efforts in the community. On a Milpitas HS campus of 3,200 students, Wohlman shared his vision for a “Fight Free Campus.” Wohlman stated that “the ensuing results were remarkable with a steep decline in fights, suspensions and expulsions.”
“Some students and staff members thought (a fight-free campus) to be impossible because they could not imagine what that might look like,” Jordan shared. “Two years later, this mini-city where a third of our learners and teachers spend the day, is one where people know each other, they know one another’s names, and every student knows their Principal cares. The culture at MHS is one in which our learners demonstrate connection.”
