New year of Jack Emery kicks off with annual district-wide student leadership summit

Milpitas High School’s Associated Student Body (ASB), along with the support from Activities Director Deana Querubin, hosted groups of students and team members from each of our Milpitas Unified School District schools and departments to kick off the 2025 Jack Emery Food Drive, which will support Milpitas community members in need throughout the coming months.
“I know times are really hard right now,” said ASB President Natasha Lacuzong, 17, a senior at MHS. “Not everyone has a warm home to eat food at or a warm plate on holidays or any other given day.”
This year, the Jack Emery runs from November 5 through December 12.
Each school or department team finds creative ways to reach their families, community partners and businesses to help solicit canned foods and/or monetary donations. All donations are then delivered to the Milpitas Food Pantry for distribution to the most vulnerable within our community.
Last year, MUSD students and team members raised $53,463.90 for the Milpitas Food Pantry. They are determined to eclipse that donation mark this year.
Lacuzong shared that her ASB officers are especially motivated this year after visiting the food pantry and speaking with local families in need who regularly utilize the pantry for different goods and services.
“This year we’ve had a lot more exposure on how things work at the food pantry,” she said. “I think it’s really important that we see that perspective. I think that motivates us to help others.”
At the brunch, guests learned about the event’s namesake and purpose: To continue the legacy of Jack Emery by inspiring a spirit of giving that unites students, families, and staff of all Milpitas Schools to ensure that no one in Milpitas faces hunger during the Holiday season.
Let the giving begin!
